Statement of the Editorial Department of Journal of North University of China (Natural Science Edition) on the use of generative artificial intelligence
In order to standardize the use of generative artificial intelligence (AIGC) tools during the submission and review processes, and to maintain academic integrity and ensure the authenticity, originality and scientific nature of research results, the editorial department of "Journal of North University (Natural Science Edition)" has formulated this guideline.
1. The journal supports the application of AIGC in academic research and paper writing, but its application scope is limited to auxiliary non-core links such as idea inspiration, data collection, language polishing, and citation collation, and should comply with the prevailing AI ethics norms and academic norms.
2. The journal will not accept manuscripts with the following circumstances: (1) Manuscripts signed by AI tools; (2) Directly generate the research framework, main content and core ideas of the manuscript with the help of AI tools; (3) Rewriting existing research results through AI tools, falsifying literature content and data, etc.; (4) Use AI tools to directly generate manuscripts with images, data, and conclusions; (5) The references include documents that list AI tools as authors, etc.; (6) Other violations of AI ethical norms or academic norms.
3. All authors submitting their papers to the Journal of North University (Natural Science Edition) are required to provide a written explanation at the end of their papers regarding the use of AI tools in the research. This should include, but not be limited to: (1) the name, developer, version, etc. of the AI tools used; (2) the purpose of the AI tools in the paper writing and the generated content should be marked in the text; (3) provide the conversation records of the AI tools, including the original prompt words and the generated content; (4) whether the accuracy and authenticity of the AI-generated content have been cross-verified. The format for the statement at the end of the paper is as follows:
AIGC Usage Statement
In the preparation of this paper, the authors used [AIGC specific tool/service name] to [ Purpose of use: such as literature research/data analysis/language polishing, etc.]. Use this tool/service on [specific date and time] and relevant texts were generated through [prompt and questions]. After using this tool/service, the author reviews and edits the content as needed and takes full responsibility for the content of the paper.
4. External review experts must independently complete review opinions and must not use AIGC to directly generate review opinions or assist in review. If there is a violation, the reviewer's review qualification will be cancelled.
5. Authors, editors, and external review experts should be aware of and abide by the restrictions on the use of AIGC, and shall not upload the papers and review opinions in the submitted manuscripts to the public AIGC platform to prevent the disclosure of the content of the manuscript or infringement of the author's intellectual property rights.
6. Authors must abide by academic integrity and be ultimately responsible for the originality and academic authenticity of submitted papers. Even if AIGC is used to assist in research and writing, authors still need to ensure the scientific nature of research methods, the reliability of data sources, the accuracy of analysis results, and the academic value of the content of the paper.
7. The journal reserves the right to track and review the use of AIGC in submissions, reviews, and publications for a long time by combining technical testing and manual review. Once it is confirmed that there are authors and reviewers who conceal or do not truthfully provide the use of AIGC, the journal has the right to take measures such as retracting, retracting, and notifying the unit where the manuscript is located.
