the deformation and failure of cylindrical specimen for 93W Ni Fe alloy subjected to compressive load at high strain rate have been investigated by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical microscope. The investigation indicated that the deformation of cylindrical specimen has three different processes: ① homogeneous deformation; ② symmetrical inhomogeneous deformation and ③ asymmetrical inhomogeneous deformation. It was found that inhomogeneous deformation possesses the characteristic of region
and that adiabatic shear band exists on the boundary of the region. Meanwhile
investigation also showed that the cracks initiated at the sites of maximal tensile stress and that the final fracture is completed by the linkage of the cracks to one another through shear band.
