Aim High-pressure steam explosion treatment was carried out on cellulose (purified cotton linter and wood pulps treated by alkali solution) to study the effect on the super-molecular structure of cellulose. Methods The changes in the structure of cellulose were studied by means of X-ray diffraction and FT-IR. Results and Conclusion Crystalline region of cellulose was made some destruction after the treatment
but apparent crystalline size was increased; simultaneously dissociated hydroxyl groups and accessiblity to H 2O was increased. Solubility of cellulose was increased due to the destruction of the morphology and super-molecular structure.
