Direct Interconnection Network(DIN) is a good scheme for Terabit Router switching fabrics. But traditional switching mechanisms such as packet switching
wormhole switching
and virtual cut-through switching cannot meet QoS demands for real-time applications in Terabit Router. To guarantee the quality of service for real-time application
Differentiated Cut-Through(DCT) mechanism has been proposed in this paper
which combines the DiffServ model and virtual cut-through switching by introducing virtual channels.Simulation of mechanism in OPNET under various traffic loads shows that DCT can provide good performance for real-time applications compared with that of the traditional switching mechanisms.
