Aim\ To study a new method of concurrency control for advanced database systems which require long duration transactionsAltruistic locking. Methods\ Extending 2PL relaxes the conditions then transactions could have much more oppotunities of obtaining the required locks. Results\ Altruistic locking reduces the likelyhood of such delays that other shorter transactions suffer waits when long duration transactions are present. Conclusion\ The method could have the system get larger concurrency and will be suited for concurrency control for advanced data base systems.
