Theoretical study and numerical simulation on the phenomenon of submunitions turnover around an axis perpendicular to flight direction of the submunition in the experiment on explosion dispersion of submunitions are first carried out in this paper.Theoretical model about submunitions turnover is developed based on classical mechanics theory and the numerical simulation on turnover process of submunitions is carried out by LS-DYNA.The calculated results about turnover angular velocity of submunitions based on the model are in accordance with the corresponding simulation results

which proves that the model is valid and therefore may be used to forecast turnover angular velocity of submunitions in explosion dispersion.
