A series of activated carbon honeycomb(ACH) has been prepared by bulk extrusion of a mixture of bituminous coal and other organic additives
carbonization at different temperatures in nitrogen atmosphere and activation at 850 ℃ with steam for the same times. The mechanical property of ACH was evaluated by means of its cold crushing strength
and their texture properties were determined by nitrogen adsorption
scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The results show that carbonization temperature has a great impact on pore size distribution and mechanical strength of ACH.An increase in carbonization temperature improves significantly the cold crushing strength and suppresses the development of mesopore volume. The ACHs obtained at the carbonization temperature of 800 ℃ have the lowest BET surface area(669 m2/g) and the highest mechanical strength(13.2 MPa) among the four samples.
