Novel activated carbon honeycombs(ACHs) was prepared by bulk extrusion of a mixture of coal and other organic additives
carbonization and activation processes. The obtained chars and ACHs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)
N2 adsorption and compression test. The results show that coal rank and the degree of activation has a great impact on pore size distribution and mechanical strength of ACHs.Datong bituminous coal tends to form ACHs with higher mechanical strength and specific surface area
whereas Shenfu sub-bituminous coal to form ACHs with large volumes of meso-and macro-pores and poor mechanical strength.
